Losing Hope and Ma

Today since morning I was in the board room attending a meeting with all of our colleagues. A flash of thought rattled me from inside. "What has been the most frighting moment of my life so far?". Suddenly, my thoughts took me back to 1st week of Nov 2008 to GNRC, Guwahati, where Ma was being treated for what the docs thought to be encephalitis. High doses of medicine had failed to recover her from the deadly illness. On the contrary she was slipping into unknown troubles. She started losing her sight and her limbs started become numb and lifeless. Her skin was increasingly shrinking and darkening. The pain on her head never seemed to go away. It appeared to me that she was under some dark evil forces that was hell bent on sqeezing out life from Ma. That particular morning Dr Das, who was in charge of Ma came for his round and checked Ma. All of us including Kaju, Sangita and my dear friend Pranjal were waiting for his results outside. That was another anxious moment. When at...

Writing 4 lines about writing

Writing a book is a serious business, I daresay. The commitment that is required to complete the assignment is the most important thing in writing a book of your choice. There are so many things to write about so many subjects that often one wonders where to start and where to end. I feel you need to be well read to understand writing per se.

Sensitivity and life

Sensitivity is such a common word these days. As a matter of fact these days we are bombarded with words galore. We need to be sensitive, understanding, loving and caring and what not. I think sensitivity is the mother of many of human emotions. I rate myself as a sensitive man. However, there have been many instances when I have acted as one of the the most insane and insensitive persons around. I have hurt my friends, relatives and of course my wife in many of the occassions of travelling together in life. But this attribute called sensitivity is interesting. Interesting because it is not something which one can "do" to others. On the other hand it is something which is a way of life. It is something that comes blended in all interactions. In many cases I have failed to understand why I behave in a particular manner, the way I do. In many cases my wife has asked me for my supprt, but I had failed to reach out to her. It is not that I did not want to be with her, but it just...

Fidelity

Fidelity is a word I have been thinking about for quite some time now. Somebody the other day told me that a friend of mine, happily married with two kids, has been repearedly sleeping with prostitutes in the neighbourhood. Interestingly this gentleman had married his girl friend of about 5 years. He had pursued her with a single minded devotion and felt that without the girl his life would be a havoc. What has happened now? Is his devotion over?

A Cup of Hot Tea and Cold Winter

Winters. Ah! Wonderful. Its so chilly out here in Delhi. There is fog, overcast sky and mild sun shine that makes all of us shiver down to our spine. Driving in Delhi roads is crazy particularly when you can't see anything. A cup of gingered hot tea served with a dash of smile brings warmth instantly in the room. During these chilly winter, terrorist affected, bankrupt days be sure to spread smile ... Thats the only one that can be solace to all of us........................... Cheers

Ma is dead

Ma is dead. Ma, my mother was 56 or 57. She is dead We could not save her. Rather the docs in Guwhati could not save her. She suffered from brain hemmorage and her last 20 days or so was very painful in the ICU. She died on 15 of Nov 2008 at about 8.30 pm. I reached Guwahati in the evening of 30th Oct 2008 and upon reaching GNRC-the hospital where Ma was admitted , hugged her lightly. I assumed that within a few days she would be out of the ICU and join me back in Delhi. For the next two weeks Kaju, Sangeeta and myself kept our prayers and hope alive. We would take turns to go near her, feed her and speak to her. It was not a pleasureable experience to speak to Ma, with her heavy pain in the head. Her enitre body had paled and swollen because of the numeorus injections that docs cluelessly gave to control what they felt was herpes encepthalatis. Gradually her vital organs started failing, beginning with her limbs, eyes etc. She started dying... She breathed her last at the Medical Col...
